Rome Day 2
On day two we headed to the Colosseum. Our first stop was Piazza Venezia. The gate wasn't opened yet so we admired it from the outside. Then we walked to the Colosseum. On the way there we passed the forums, they were amazing. And of course the Colosseum was the highlight of the day. I can't explain how great it was to stand in such a historic place, and try to envision the thousands of people who gathered there to watch some of the most brutal fights. At the Colosseum we bought Addy an umbrella which she loved, you will see it in some of the picture below.
The Patheon was our next stop, this influential dome temple served as a model for Michelangelo's dome of St Peters. After nap we went to the Trevi fountain, where we took a horse and carriage ride. It was such a peaceful way to view Rome and all of it's beautiful buildings. The ride ended at Castel Sant Angelo, Hadran's tomb turned castle, prison, papal refugee, and now museum. It was a great day.
