Taormina

Our Saturday trip this week was to a town not to far from us called Taormina, it is beautiful. I could spend 2 days just shopping, any takers? We went to see the Teatro Greco, which is the 2nd largest Greek amphitheater in Sicily. The remains of the Teatro Greco are entirely Roman, dating back from the 1st century. As so often happened with the Romans the space was changed from a theater to a gladiatorial circus, but nothing can diminish the setting with the coast and Mt Etna as a natural background. Again the pictures do not do it justice. We also stopped at the Fontana del Tauro which is the symbol of Taormina. Everyone was washing their hands and drinking from the fountain. I have no clue why, but we joined in just in case is was for good luck or better yet wealth and beauty :) Addy at the base of the statue
